Prof. Paweł Wojciechowski has been appointed as the new President of the Institute of Public Finance (IFP). He succeeds Dr. Sławomir Dudek, the founder and long-standing President of IFP, who as of 1 January has taken up the position of Chair of the Fiscal Council.
The Institute of Public Finance was established in January 2023 by Dr. Sławomir Dudek and Patrycja Satora as an independent think tank focused on the analysis of public finances and fiscal policy. The change in the position of President is directly linked to the appointment of Dr. Sławomir Dudek as Chair of the Fiscal Council — a newly created body aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in Poland’s fiscal policy.
“From the very beginning of IFP’s existence, one of our priorities has been the development of strong fiscal institutions. The Fiscal Council was one of the pillars of this vision, which is why we see today’s changes as a natural stage in the organisation’s development. I am pleased that from the new year we can continue to pursue IFP’s mission together with Prof. Paweł Wojciechowski in his new role. Paweł Wojciechowski brings extensive, long-standing — including international — experience in both the public and private sectors in the fields of finance and analysis. He is a recognised expert and the author of numerous studies and reports,” says Patrycja Satora, Co-founder and Vice President of IFP.
Paweł Wojciechowski, until now Chair of the IFP Programme Council, joins the Management Board of the Foundation at a time of growing challenges for the state of public finances. High public spending needs, budgetary pressures and economic uncertainty increase the importance of reliable analysis and a long-term perspective on fiscal policy — areas in which IFP is actively engaged.
“Taking on the role of President of the Institute of Public Finance is both an honour and a major responsibility for me. The more difficult the situation of public finances, the greater the importance of independent analytical institutions and strong fiscal frameworks,” says Prof. Paweł Wojciechowski, the new President of the Institute of Public Finance.
The roles of the Fiscal Council and the Institute of Public Finance are complementary. The Fiscal Council performs supervisory and advisory functions, while IFP focuses on in-depth analysis, expert work and supporting the quality of public debate. The shared objective of both institutions is the long-term stability of public finances and the strengthening of standards of responsible fiscal policy.
